α Telescopii

Alpha Telescopii is a 3.5 magnitude star, the brightest in a faint constellation.

The constellation is just south of Corona Australis, while alpha Tel is most easily found by dropping due south three binocular fields of view from epsilon and eta Sagittarii: binoculars.

In the same field is delta1 and delta2, an optical binary of two nearly equal stars, 5.0 and 5.1.

Two true binaries are in this field: h5033 and h5045:
Two degrees south of alpha and very slightly to the east is h5045: 6.7, 9.7; 21, 8.1".
About two degrees west of zeta Telescopii is h5033AB: 6.7, 9.8; 114, 17.2".
