Struve 1785 is an attractive rapid binary with an orbit of 155 years. The latest (2013) observations: 7.4, 8.2; 183º, 3.0".

The stars are only 44.5 light years away.

To find the binary, start at Arcturus (alpha Boötis). With Arcturus at the bottom of your glasses move one binocular field north, you'll see a 4.8 magnitude star, 12 Boo, on the eastern edge. Centring this star now move one binocular field to the northwest. You'll see Struve 1785 near the centre: binoculars. It's situated midway between two brighter stars, 3 Boo (6.0) and 9 Boo (5.0). y.
