M23 (NGC 6494)

M23 (NGC 6494) is a loose cluster of over a hundred stars, a splendid binocular object with delicately curving ninth-magnitude stars.

The cluster is found in the same field of view as mu Sgr: binoculars.

The large diffuse nebula known as The Lagoon (M8) is in the same field, at the southern edge.
