ϑ Hydrae

From the Hydra's Head move a little over a binocular field east: theta Hydrae is the mid-point along the Hydra's neck. It's a 3.9 visual magnitude star with an optical companion: 3.8, 9.9; 247, 20".

Northeast of theta near the edge of your field of view is Struve 1347, a fine telescopic binary with colour contrast, yellow and blue: 7.3, 8.3; 314, 21.7".

Move southeast two binocular fields to tau1 and tau2 Hydrae.

Tau1 is a lovely wide binary (h1167) with a subtle colour contrast, yellow and reddish: 4.6, 7.3; 4, 67.5".

In the same field of view is iota Hydrae; this star has a soft red colour to it.

Now move southwest a little over a binocular field to find alpha Hydrae.
