is a marvellous binary, perfect for binoculars.
Starting at theta2 Orionis, in the same field of vision to the south is the brighter iota Orionis (2.8). Southwest of iota, still in the same field of vision, is the binary, easily found as it is the the next brightest star in the area with a visual magnitude of 4.8: binoculars. Its companion is 5.7, separated by 36" at 223º (to the southwest of the primary). These two blue-white stars form one of the finest binaries in the constellation. |
